Southern New Jersey Real Estate

Our Company History

In the early 1650's, John and Peter Elzey (grandsons of John Elzey, a merchant and mayor of Southampton, England) sailed to America. They settled on the Eastern shore of Maryland and were the first commissioners of land in that area. John was always desirous of taking part in public affairs, while Peter’s interest led him to become a large land owner. The early Elzey’s, like the rest of the Eastern Shore people, were planters. They raised tobacco and cotton until it became unprofitable, then turned to growing wheat. They loaded their crops on their own wharves and shipped them to England and the West Indies, accompanied with orders for finery and other luxuries.

E.G. Elzey & Son is now in our third generation having been founded in the year 1922 by Emmons Guy Elzey, Sr. In the year 1949, E. Guy Elzey, Jr. joined the family business and has been active in home building, real estate investment and development, real estate sales and real estate appraisal. In the year 1982, E. Guy Elzey, III joined E. G. Elzey & Son and has been active in real estate sales, real estate investment, real estate management and real estate appraisal.

Today, after approximately 350 years of Elzeys in America, it is interesting to note we have a direct paternal lineage to Peter Elzey who, of the two early Elzey brothers, was the land owner and realty investor. People often remark, “your family has real estate in their blood”, and have no idea of how just right they are.
