Our history........
In the early 1650's, John and Peter Elzey (grandsons of John Elzey a merchant and former 1629 mayor of Southampton England) sailed to America. They settled on the Eastern Shore and were the first Commissioners of land in that area.
The Elzeys, like the rest of the Eastern Shore people, were planters. They raised tobacco until it became unprofitable, then turned to growing wheat. They loaded their crops on their own wharves and shipped them to England and the West Indies, accompanied with orders for finery and other luxuries.
John Elzey was always interested in and desirous of taking part in public affairs. Peter Elzey enjoyed becoming a large land owner.
As time passed on, the Elzey family were leaders in their community, their churches, and owners of their own businesses. The more things changed, the more things remained the same. In 1922, my grandfather Emmons Guy Elzey, Sr started the Elzey family real estate brokerage. The business listed and sold real estate, and also bought and sold properties inorder to turn a profit. In 1949, E. Guy Elzey, Jr joined his father's business after graduating from college. He built houses, started a real estate appraisal business, and began investing in real estate. In the 1980's after graduating from college and first working for Fox and Lazo, E. Guy Elzey, III joined the Elzey family firm and became active in real estate appraisal and also in real estate investment and brokerage.
It is interesting to note we descend directly from Peter Elzey, the brother who enjoyed being a large land owner. People often say to me "you have real estate in your blood" and have no idea just how true that statement is!!!
